ABOUT JOHN

I Didn’t Retire. I Changed Directions.

The story behind CabanaJohn.

Professional portrait of John during his legal career

CHAPTER ONE

Building a Career

For many years, I measured success the way a lot of people do: build a career, work hard, earn more, buy nicer things and keep climbing.

I was fortunate to build a successful California probate law practice and help families through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

But success came with a cost. Long hours, stress and health concerns eventually made me question whether I was building the life I actually wanted.

CHAPTER TWO

Life Is Too Short

After losing my mother in a tragic act of violence, I stopped treating time like an unlimited resource.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT.

Not as a cliché. As a decision.

A decision to spend more time with the people I love, collect stories instead of possessions and choose freedom over status.

CHAPTER THREE

The Unexpected Plot Twist

Retirement wasn’t an ending. It was permission to explore.

Working at Allegiant Stadium reminded me that purpose doesn’t come from a title. It comes from staying engaged, meeting people and trying something unexpected.

CHAPTER FOUR

CabanaJohn

Today, Kat and I live in a 55+ community in Summerlin, Nevada. We travel, walk, laugh, make friends and keep looking for new experiences.

I created CabanaJohn because I believe your next chapter can become your favorite one.

I don’t have everything figured out. I’m simply paying attention, sharing what I learn and hoping it helps someone enjoy life a little more.
